Nearly every spring* since 2016, groups of Ball State University students have been coming together to document and celebrate acts of volunteerism and “giving back” in Muncie, Indiana.
Shoot for Good Muncie uses documentary photojournalism to celebrate community, volunteerism, and positive human connections.
Ball State’s students of Photographic Storytelling have been organizing the project and want to reach out to local photographers, Muncie volunteers, or interested people who want to photograph and participate in something positive that day. We use the hashtag #SFGMuncie on our social media accounts. All images are also posted here on our website. A local exhibition takes place a few days after the documentation period.
The JOUR437 Advanced Photographic Storytelling class, typically in partnership with the Ball State University Student Chapter of the National Press Photographers Association, plans and coordinates the event and invites local citizens in the area to participate in the project along with the students.
*Note: In 2020, there was a brief pause during the COVID-19 health crisis.
