Red Tails, Green Thumbs

Red-Tail Land Conservancy works to educate the Muncie community on the importance of conservation and inspire people to get their hands dirty and make their own discoveries. They are currently working to maintain the Hidden Canal Nature Preserve, and led this guided hike to better inform those interested and invited on their conservation mission and goals. From children to the elderly, the feeling of community was irrefutable. Everyone, regardless of whether they were a member of staff or not, wanted to share their own knowledge of varying components of nature. Removing invasive species along the way, like garlic mustard, I myself learned how I could better protect the environment. Something that especially stood out during this experience was learning from the younger participants [names withheld] who reminded me of why I do what I do. Their passion for little frogs and spiders hiding beneath the leaves made me motivated to keep photographing and sharing these discoveries, just like Red-Tail encourages them. It truly makes a difference, and you can too. (Photos by Braelyn Cooper)
